Can Infrared Light Pass Through Glass? | climaterx

+

· by James R. Barrante, There seems to be some controversy, particularly by laypersons, as to whether infrared light can pass through glass. The correct answer is, "That depends!" Infrared radiation spans a wide region of wavelengths. At the shorter wavelength end, near visible red, the behavior of infrared light is not that different from…

7 Main Types of Level Sensing Methods – How do they differ?

+

· But is there need for such technology—or any level sensing device is the question that many people may ask. However, with the competitive nature of the industry and the consistently wanting to improve quality, reduce costs, inefficiencies and waste kind of mentality, no company wants to take the risk at offering solutions that are not performing as best as they …

Photoelectric Sensors Are One Way to Detect Clear Objects

+

We do offer some diffuse mode sensors that have some usefulness for detecting clear objects. Our model ML1008W200RT/103/115 can detect transparent objects with good reliability due to its divergent beam pattern. The only limitation with this sensor is the 200 mm range and the wide beam.

IR (Infrared) Obstacle Detection Sensor Circuit

+

· An infrared sensor emits and/or detects infrared radiation to sense its surroundings. The working of any Infrared sensor is governed by three laws: Planck’s Radiation law, Stephen – Boltzmann law and Wien’s Displacement law. Planck’s law states that “every object emits radiation at a temperature not equal to 0 0 K”.

· That''s why I thought of ultrasonics. They will "detect" the clear bottle just fine. Then an optical sensor may likely fail to detect a clear bottle. Those two would get a lot accomplished especially if the conveyor system was optimised to run only one item, at a time through a bank of sensors (like a commercial sorting machine).

FWIW, I once needed to create a plexiglass window/shell for a nearIR camera. Most CCD and CMOS sensors are sensitive in the near IR range ( around 850nm), which is where user3095849 suggested your sensor sits.. I went to a local plexiglass supplier and asked for samples of various sheets (they often have lots of leftover pieces) and simply tried them with my sensor.
